"The International Center for Economic Growth has published this paper by Professors Steve H. Hanke and Kurt Schuler on currency boards as the ninth in its Sector Studies series. The series analyzes one country´s response to a specific policy problem or compares the policies of several countries. This study addresses a major problem facing many developing countries: high inflation and a currency that is consequently distrusted by investors and residents alike. An unsound currency aggravates problems of development as foreign investment dries up and domestic capital flees the country. [...] This paper makes a powerful argument for a solution to a problem that confronts many developing and transitional countries, being useful to policy makers who are struggling to restore value to their countries´ currencies." -- By Nicolás Ardito-Barletta, ICEG General Director |
